Alief Campus Renovations
Houston Community College

Completed 2007
70,000 sq. ft.

In 2006 the Houston Community College System (HCC) purchased an office complex previously owned and occupied by the Chevron Texaco Pipeline Division. The 1984 structure comprises three separate wings, ranging from one to four stories, around a triangular atrium.

HCC challenged HarrisonKornberg to remodel the drab first floor of the complex to accommodate the relocated HCC – Alief Campus and provide an engaging educational space for its 3,000 students. The resulting 70,000sf is a lively mix of color, openness and light, and includes all program areas of an HCC campus. Vibrant new colors improve wayfinding and energize all areas, especially the soaring atrium. The program incorporates classrooms, science labs, offices for student services, enrollment and financial aid, an electronic resources center, testing labs, a bookstore and all support departments and departmental offices.
