Montgomery Campus Parking Garage
Lone Star College System
368,000 sq. ft.
To meet the parking demands of an increasing enrollment, HarrisonKornberg was selected as a part of a design-build team to create a 979-car parking garage on the Montgomery Campus of Lone Star College.
The team settled on a three bay, five story parking structure totaling 368,000sf. Constructed of pre-cast concrete, the structural system allowed for efficiency and speed to meet the aggressive one year design and construction schedule. The project was budgeted at $10,000 per car, or $10M; our team built the garage on time at a final construction cost of $8,439,200.00 – saving our client more than $1.5M.
Nestled in a wooded site, the garage abuts academic buildings and frames an existing surface parking lot. The longest visible elevations run East - West and were designed with reveals in the precast panels in an effort to create depth, shadow and movement on the North and South facades.
The garage also houses the central command center for the campus police department. The command center is positioned along the major travel path of students, teachers and campus visitors. Emergency generators ensure the command center will remain operational during severe weather and natural disasters.
