8,000 sq. ft.
This house is located on a 25 acre property outside of Front Royal, VA. From its 150 foot high perch above the north fork of the Shenandoah River, the house looks across the river valley to the hillside farms and mountains beyond.
The program includes a combined living/dining/kitchen area, library, game room, master suite, three guest rooms and a six-car garage. The building also has a large covered porch and a screened porch, where the owners entertain.
The building employs vocabulary and materials common to vernacular buildings of that region (plaster walls; standing seam metal roof), but is clearly not a barn or a farmhouse. The building has deep overhangs to protect the windows, all of which can be opened. All the spaces have expansive views and a strong connection with the wooded site.
