Buffalo Speedway Residence
4,200 sq. ft.
This house has been designed for a single woman and her two teenage children and will showcase her large art collection. It is located on a 50’ wide x 200’ deep lot in West University Place, a well established neighborhood in Houston’s inner loop, near Rice University and the Texas Medical Center. The program includes an expansive main room that combines living, kitchen and casual dining. Other program spaces include a master suite, two other bedrooms, a formal dining room, study, kids’ play area and a screened terrace on the second floor.
Exterior materials include natural stone, metal siding and roofing, and insulated, LowE aluminum windows, all of which are produced within 500 miles of Houston. Roof overhangs extend from 3 to 5 feet and protect all windows and doors. Major glass areas occur on the north side to minimize heat gain while providing a strong connection to the rear yard. Spray foam insulation achieves R23 in the walls and R45 or higher in the sealed attic spaces. HVAC units are SEER 13 and the water heaters are energy-saving hybrid units. Artificial lighting uses LED and fluorescent lamps. Planting materials are drought resistant.
